Come along as we take a walk with some of our Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Pokémon: Let’s Go, Eevee! friends.

The upcoming Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Pokémon: Let’s Go, Eevee! games for Nintendo Switch go to great lengths to help Trainers bond with their Pokémon. Whether by a little detail, such as being able to see a Pokémon wandering around before you attempt to catch it, or by a showier display, like the ability to ride certain Pokémon around the Kanto region, players are encouraged to connect with their Pokémon partners on a deeper level than ever before.
One of the more charming elements of the game allows you to take any Pokémon in your party out of its Poké Ball at any time. This lets the Pokémon walk with you as you explore the game’s world. It’s not just a cosmetic choice, either—your Pokémon pal might notice hidden items that will assist you on your journey.
And there’s no denying that having a Pokémon following you is downright adorable. In fact, watching the way that some Pokémon move is half the fun. We wanted to look at some of our favorite Pokémon walking animations that we’ve seen so far.
Meltan
There is still plenty that we’re trying to learn about the mysterious new Steel-type Pokémon Meltan. What we do know, however, is that the diminutive Pokémon looks darn cute when it’s tagging along behind you. Look at its little arms flail as it struggles to keep up! We just want to give it a hug!
Magikarp
A more delicate Water-type Pokémon, such as Goldeen, may gracefully swim through the air when you remove it from its Poké Ball (which is a little odd, if you think about it…), but not ol’ Magikarp here. It behaves exactly as you would imagine a Magikarp to behave on land—it starts flopping around like crazy. And it doesn’t just follow behind its Trainer, either. Magikarp flops everywhere.
Golem and Electrode
Some Pokémon walk. Others fly. But some truly know how to travel. When you have a uniquely spherical body like Golem and Electrode here, there’s just one way to go—rolling! Luckily, Golem can tuck its extremities into its body, but we do feel a little bad for Electrode, who can’t help but roll over its own face. We guess that’s just how some Pokémon roll…
Butterfree
Something about Butterfree always gets us sentimental, so maybe we’re a bit biased when we see the innocent-looking Pokémon fluttering over our shoulder as we journey through the Kanto region. Just look at those large, soulful eyes and those delicate wings. We will protect you, Butterfree! We don’t ever want to say bye-bye!
Nidoking and Nidoqueen
A terrific new feature in Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Pokémon: Let’s Go, Eevee! is the ability to play with a friend. Even better, both players can have a Pokémon following them outside of a Poké Ball. What better way to demonstrate this feature than with this pair of lumbering powerhouses? You’re bound to stand out when walking with this royal duo.
Psyduck
Knowing its round, bulbous body, flat feet, and lack of legs, we have to admit that we expected Psyduck to walk with a hilarious waddle. What we got is something completely different but no less wonderful. With surprising grace, Psyduck practically skips as it walks. Combine that lighthearted mode of conveyance with Psyduck’s permanently blank expression, and we’re smitten.
Staryu
Like Magikarp, the Water-type Pokémon Staryu seems like it would be out of its element on land. Unlike Magikarp, though, Staryu is able to preserve a bit of dignity as it moves around in this strange, dry world. This talented Pokémon can actually hover through the air. And not only that—it spins as it moves! This makes Staryu look extra awesome, but we hope it doesn’t get dizzy.
Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle
We couldn’t resist including this iconic trio in our list. Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle are the original first-partner Pokémon from Pokémon Red and Pokémon Blue, and seeing them running around in beautiful high definition brings back all sorts of warm, fuzzy memories of first playing Pokémon 20 years ago. This is how we imagined they would look!
Grimer
Given it lacks legs, it’s not terribly surprising that Grimer doesn’t walk per se. What it does do is ooze. Check out the way its body shimmies like a large mass of jelly as it slinks along behind the player. Sure, this living blob of sludge may not be the most sanitary Pokémon around, but how can we not love a Pokémon with such flow?
Jigglypuff
Of course, these are just a few of the Pokémon that you’ll be able to meet in Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Pokémon: Let’s Go, Eevee! As you play, remember to let your Pokémon out of their Poké Balls from time to time. They’ll assist you on your quest, and doing so is bound to strengthen the Trainer-Pokémon bond!
