On November 23rd, Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon will usher in a new generation of battling, trading and adventure when they launch exclusively on Nintendo 3DS family systems. To prepare for this new era of Pokémon, we sat down with Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon’s director Shigeru Ohmori and producer Junichi Masuda to see where they stood on some age-old Pokémon dilemmas, plus some new ones too!
Let’s see how they fared – quick-fire style!

Nintendo of Europe: Thanks for joining us today. Let’s kick things off with an easy question: Battle or trading?
Junichi Masuda: Trading!
Shigeru Ohmori: Battling! (laughs)
NoE: Cute or cool Pokémon?
JM: Cute.
SO: Cool. It’s all about cool!
NoE: Strength or strategy?
JM: Strength.
SO: Strategy.
NoE: What is your favourite type of Pokémon?
SO: I like Grass-type Pokémon.
JM: Electric!
NoE: Evolve or Press B?
JM: B! B! B! B! I’m all about the B Button.
SO: I always go for evolution.
NoE: If you could go on holiday to any region from the Pokémon series, where would you like to go?
JM: I’d like to go to New York, so I’d visit the Unova region from Pokémon Black Version and Pokémon White Version.
SO: I’d like to go up north, so I’d choose Sinnoh from Pokémon Diamond Version and Pokémon Pearl Version.
NoE: Interesting choices! Let’s move on to some questions specifically related to Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon. As both games are set 12 hours apart, do you prefer daytime or night-time?
JM: Night-time.
SO: Night-time.
Pictured from left to right: Rowlet, Litten and Popplio
NoE: Which first-partner Pokémon from Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon would you choose: Rowlet, Litten or Popplio?
JM: I like Litten.
SO: I’d choose Rowlet!
NoE: If you had your own Z-Move what would it be?
JM: (laughs) That’s a difficult question… I would have a move where I could constantly pull out new ideas, ‘Super Programmer’.
SO: I’d like to have a move where I could draw absolutely anything the moment I think of it.
NoE: Solgaleo from Pokémon Sun or Lunala from Pokémon Moon?
JM: Lunala!
SO: I’m going for Solgaleo.
JM: I like the idea that if you’re playing Pokémon Moon over in Japan you can kind of figure out what time it is in the west because of the time difference. (laughs)
NoE: Is there anything taller than a Alolan Exeggutor?
JM: (laughs) Hmm, not sure…
SO: If you stretched Rayquaza out all the way it might be taller…
NoE: I’m glad we were able to, sort of, put that topic to rest. Thank you both for your time!
Look out for part two of this interview, coming soon!
