Kyoto, Japan and Orlando, Florida (November 29, 2016) – Imagine the fun of stepping into a larger-than-life Nintendo adventure. Gigantic Piranha Plants spring to life. Question blocks, power-ups and more surround you. And Mario and all his friends are there to pull you into a brand-new world.

You will enter an entire realm filled with iconic Nintendo excitement, gameplay, heroes and villains. And it is coming to three Universal theme parks around the globe.

 

The creative visionaries behind Nintendo’s legendary worlds and characters are working together with the creative teams behind Universal’s blockbuster theme park attractions. Their goal: to bring the characters, action and adventure of Nintendo video games to life within Universal theme parks. And to do so in new and innovative ways that capture what makes them so special. All of the adventure, fun and whimsy you experience through a screen will now be all around you – in breathtakingly authentic ways.

  • Nintendo-themed areas are coming to Universal Studios Japan, Universal Orlando Resort and Universal Studios Hollywood.
  • These will be expansive, immersive and interactive. They will be highly themed and authentic environments filled with multiple attractions, shops and restaurants.
  • Guests will feel as if they are playing inside their favorite games – this time in real life.
  • There will be something for everyone – regardless of their age or gaming experience level.
  • Planning and creative work on these areas is well underway; they will open separately over the next several years.

 

The new themed areas come as the result of a global partnership between Universal Parks & Resorts and Nintendo – two icons of the entertainment world. Universal theme parks create incredibly popular family entertainment experiences for millions of people based on compelling characters, stories and innovative technology. Nintendo creates remarkable and imaginative games filled with captivating stories and beloved characters.

Each Universal theme park will announce details of its specific Nintendo areas. The first such announcement will come soon.

Universal Studios Japan Reveals New Image for the “World’s-First” Nintendo Themed Area SUPER NINTENDO WORLD

Expansive, Multi-Level Area Will Feature Peach’s Castle, Bowser’s Castle, State-of-the-Art*1 “Mario Kart” and “Yoshi” Rides

Universal Studios Japan today revealed a new look at “SUPER NINTENDO WORLD,” the world’s first*2 Nintendo-themed expansive entertainment area featuring Nintendo’s legendary worlds and characters.

“SUPER NINTENDO WORLD” will present the exciting world of Nintendo, which originated in Japan and is now hugely popular around the world. SUPER NINTENDO WORLD will bring the fun of Nintendo games to life within an expansive, highly themed environment. Guests will enter a world of excitement where they feel as if they are playing inside their favorite Nintendo games.

The new image released by Universal Studios Japan reveals a highly themed and expansive, multi-leveled land which will feature multiple attractions, shops and a restaurant. The attractions will include an all-new Mario-Kart attraction and Yoshi ride, which will bring the hugely popular Nintendo games and characters to life in a way that takes theme park entertainment to an entirely new level and goes beyond what Nintendo fans and theme park fans have ever seen.

The image also revealed the iconic Peach’s Castle and Bowser’s Castle.

SUPER NINTENDO WORLD is expected to boost the attendance of Universal Studios Japan in the years to come. It is set to open in time for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics Games.

 

According to the estimate by Dr. Katsuhiro Miyamoto, Professor Emeritus of Kansai University, Japan, the economic impacts created by Universal Studios Japan during the 10 years following the opening of “SUPER NINTENDO WORLD” will be about 6,200 billion yen in the Kinki Region, and about 11,700 billion yen nationwide. The impact in the labor market will be about 1.08 million people*3.

Universal Studios Japan begins large-scale recruitment of crew in preparation for the opening of “SUPER NINTENDO WORLD” next year

Universal Studios Japan will launch a recruitment campaign on its recruitment website and other mediums from December 2019. In preparation for the opening of “SUPER NINTENDO WORLD” TM next year, we will implement the recruitment of crew members at the largest-ever scale by holding more registrations/screenings for crew members. Currently, about 9,000 crew members are working at Universal Studios Japan, and we are planning to enhance the recruitment of part-time workers in over 30 occupations and hire 2,500 people.

Information on the application process and screening schedule for crew members is available on the recruitment site for part-time crew members at https://recruit.usj.co.jp/crew/, which is located on our official website.

Since October 1, 2019, Universal Studios Japan has raised hourly wages for all crew members, and paid 1,060 yen or more on basic hourly wages. In addition, Universal Studios Japan was ranked 1st in the “2019 brand power ranking for part-time recruitment (for students)” released on September 12, 2019.

To continue being a preferred choice of employment, we are making utmost efforts not only to raise wages, but also to improve the work environment for crew members. Furthermore, we will strive to improve crew satisfaction and secure excellent human resources while enhancing the attractiveness and positioning in the human resources market for long-term and sustainable growth.
