Terrakion Pokémon GO Raid Battle Tips
Following in the hoofprints of its fellow Legendary Pokémon Cobalion, Terrakion is next up in Pokémon GO Raid Battles. From Tuesday, November 26, 2019, at 1:00 p.m. PST until Tuesday, December 17, 2019, at 1:00 p.m. PST, you’ll have the chance to challenge and catch the Cavern Pokémon. Terrakion is the only known Rock- and Fighting-type Pokémon, so you’re definitely Justified if you’re excited about adding it to your team!
The Premier Balls you earn when defeating Terrakion will be the only Poké Balls you can use to catch it, so it’s crucial to be prepared. Maximize your chances by helping your team take over the Gym before the raid starts, battling alongside your friends, and picking Pokémon that will perform well in battle. Tips for Battling Terrakion in Pokémon GO
Take advantage of Terrakion’s many weaknesses. Recent Raid Bosses have had few type weaknesses to exploit, but poor Terrakion has seven: Water, Grass, Fighting, Ground, Psychic, Steel, and Fairy. Try to build a team of high-CP Pokémon from these types. Past events provided the two best damage-dealing Pokémon for this encounter: Psystrike Mewtwo and Meteor Mash Metagross. But also consider Alakazam, Machamp, and Espeon if you’re looking to train some more readily available Pokémon.
Consider the weather. Terrakion’s plentiful weaknesses open up some opportunities to squeak out a little more damage from the weather. Breloom, Roserade, and the Grass types with Frenzy Plant from Community Days are much stronger when it’s sunny. Meanwhile, Kingler (if it knows Crabhammer), Kyogre, and the Water types with Hydro Cannon from Community Days make waves when it’s raining. In cloudy weather, Machamp, Gardevoir, and Hariyama jump up the rankings. And Mewtwo’s Psychic-type compatriots will shine with the wind, while Metagross’s fellow Steel-type Pokémon will excel in snowy weather.
Strategize around Terrakion’s attacks. You won’t know which attacks the Terrakion you’re fighting will use until after you’ve seen it in action, but if you do happen to learn its moves, you can tailor your team a little to reduce the amount of healing items you need to use. Like Cobalion, Terrakion may surprise Fighting-type foes hoping to exploit its weakness by hitting them with the Psychic-type Zen Headbutt, while the Fighting-type move Close Combat will devastate many Steel types. Terrakion’s Earthquake, Rock Slide, and Smack Down attacks aren’t super effective against any of the types it’s weak against, but be careful if you choose to deploy certain dual-type Pokémon (such as Metagross, which is weak to Ground-type attacks).
Throw Your Premier Balls Carefully against Legendary Pokémon
You’ll earn a limited number of Premier Balls by defeating Terrakion, and you must use these to catch it, so take careful aim to make each one count. If you battle alongside your friends, you can earn extra Premier Balls, so be sure to bring friends with you. Using a Golden Razz Berry before each throw will vastly increase your chances of success. You can stock up on them beforehand by defeating other Raid Bosses.
Your chance of catching a Pokémon is greatest when the size of the target ring is small enough for you to score Excellent Throws. Throwing Curveballs can improve your chances even more. But work within your abilities—if you don’t think you can reliably make Excellent Curveball Throws, aim for Nice Throws or Great Throws rather than risk missing the target ring completely.
Lastly, don’t waste your Premier Balls by throwing while the Pokémon is moving around. Wait for it to start acting up and for its target ring to disappear, then time your throw so that the Premier Ball lands as the target ring reappears.
Like all Legendary Pokémon, Terrakion is tricky to catch, so don’t be discouraged if it escapes your first encounter. Stock up on useful items, like Max Potions, Max Revives, and Golden Razz Berries, and try again later with some friends.
