Celebrate the Year of the Pig in Pokémon GO

This year’s Lunar New Year event in Pokémon GO highlights 12 Pokémon, grants bonuses, and gives a chance to find Shiny Spoink.

February 04, 2019

Lunar New Year has arrived once again, and we are entering the Year of the Pig. There’s plenty to celebrate in Pokémon GO during this traditional festival. From February 4, 2019, at 1:00 p.m. PST to February 13, 2019, at 1:00 p.m. PST, Trainers will find that 12 special Pokémon will appear more frequently in the wild. Look for Rattata, Miltank, Electabuzz, Buneary, Dratini, Ekans, Ponyta, Mareep, Mankey, Torchic, Poochyena, and Spoink showing up in greater numbers during the event. We can neither confirm nor deny any connection between these Pokémon and the real-life Chinese zodiac. If you’re lucky, you might even encounter a Shiny Spoink!

During the celebration, Trainers will earn twice the usual XP for catching and evolving Pokémon. And when you trade a Pokémon, there will be an increased chance that it will become a Lucky Pokémon. Hopefully this will just be the start of your lucky and prosperous year. Have fun exploring during this Lunar New Year event!
