Same here. I don’t understand how the trading card game can be more rewarding than the foundation of the Pokémon franchise.

Prizing for the 2016 Pokémon World Championships
The awards for the Pokémon TCG and Video Game World Championships events have been announced.

With more than $500,000 in prizes available, the Pokémon TCG and Video Game World Championships attract the best players from across the globe. The award structure and values for these top-tier events have changed for the 2016 Play! Pokémon Championship Series season. Of note, players age 18 or older who finish in the Top 8 may choose either a cash award or a scholarship of the same amount, while top finishers in 9th place or lower will receive a cash award. Players under 18 who finish in the Top 8 may choose either a scholarship or a Travel Certificate of the same amount, while top finishers in 9th place or lower will receive a Travel Certificate.
Here is the full prize information:
18 years of age and older:
- 1st–8th: Choice of scholarship or cash
- Top finishers in 9th place or lower: Cash
Under 18 years of age:
- 1st–8th: Choice of scholarship or Travel Certificate
- Top finishers in 9th place or lower: Travel Certificate
