April 28, 2016
Nintendo Co., Ltd. hereby announces that its wholly-owned subsidiary, Nintendo of America Inc., has started negotiations to sell a portion of its ownership in First Avenue Entertainment LLLP, which operates the Major League Baseball team, Seattle Mariners.
If and when the deal is done, Nintendo of America Inc. will no longer be the principal owner of the team.
Note: The profits from this sale are not reflected in the financial forecasts presented yesterday. If and when the negotiations are successful and a sale price is determined, we will adjust the financial forecasts and release them as needed.
(About Seattle Mariners)
In December 1992, there was a possibility that the previous owner might relocate the Seattle Mariners outside the region. At that time, the then president of Nintendo, the late Hiroshi Yamauchi, complied with a local request and personally paid for the investment to become the principal owner of the team. In August 2004, his ownership was transferred to Nintendo of America. Until now, Nintendo of America has remained the principal owner of the team.
