Update (August 26, 2020)

Apple is blocking Fortnite updates and new installs on the App Store, and has said they will terminate our ability to develop Fortnite for Apple devices. As a result, Fortnite’s newly released Chapter 2 – Season 4 update (v14.00), will not release on iOS and macOS on August 27.

Epic is fighting to end Apple’s anti-competitive restrictions on mobile device marketplaces. Papers are available for our August 13, August 17, and August 23 filings.

If you still want to play Fortnite on Android, you can access the latest version of Fortnite from the Epic Games App for Android on Fortnite.com/Android or the Samsung Galaxy Store.

Apple has blocked Fortnite from the App Store, removing everyone’s ability to install and update the game on iOS devices, while instructing Epic to “remove the ‘Epic direct payment’ feature.” Apple is keeping prices high so they can collect 30% of your payments, and is blocking Fortnite in order to prevent Epic from passing on the savings from direct payments to you! Fortnite remains available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PC, GeForce Now, and the Epic Games app on Android. Your account, progression, and purchases also remain available on these platforms.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why can’t I access Fortnite on my device?

In response to Epic providing new payment choices with lower prices, Apple has retaliated by blocking Fortnite updates and new installs on the App Store, and has said they will terminate our ability to develop Fortnite for Apple devices. As a result, Fortnite’s newly released Chapter 2 – Season 4 update (v14.00), will not release on iOS and macOS on August 27.

If you want to play the newest Season of Fortnite on Android, you can access the latest version of Fortnite from the Epic Games App for Android on Fortnite.com/Android or the Samsung Galaxy Store.

I only play on iOS devices. How can I regain access to Fortnite if I only play on iOS devices?

Make your voice heard in the fight against the app tax! Message @AppStore using #FreeFortnite on social. All players should have a choice in payment providers and save up to 20%. Apple disagrees!

How do I get a refund if I’ve spent money on Fortnite and can’t access my purchases because of the Apple retaliation?

Unfortunately, Apple doesn’t allow Epic Games to directly refund players for App Store purchases and instead requires players to ask Apple for a refund. Please follow these instructions if you wish to ask Apple for a refund: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204084.

We are issuing a full refund to all customers who have made purchases on iOS through Epic direct payment before August 28. It may take up until September 7 before you see the refund to your payment method. There’s no action needed on your part and you will retain V-Bucks and items purchased.

What happens if I gift new content, including the Season 4 Battle Pass, to players accessing Fortnite on iOS or Android (via Google Play)?

Players will be unable to receive gifts, including the Chapter 2 – Season 4 Battle Pass, on iOS and Android (via Google Play) and must log into an alternate platform that has access to v14.00 to redeem the gift. Even then the gift, be it the Battle Pass, a new Outfit, etc., will not become available on iOS or Android (via Google Play) once received.

Why doesn’t Epic capitulate to Apple’s demand to remove Epic direct payment?

Epic believes that you have a right to save money thanks to using more efficient, new purchase options. Apple’s rules add a 30% tax on all of your purchases, and they punish game developers like us who offer direct payment options.
