Pokémon GO Gets Darkrai, Shiny Yamask, and New Shadow Pokémon This Halloween
All sorts of spooky Pokémon and frightening features are creeping into the game this Halloween.
October 14, 2019
Don your scariest costume and grab a big ol’ bag to hold your trick-or-treat candy, Trainers—Halloween is coming to Pokémon GO in a big way! Bone-chilling Pokémon—like Darkrai and Yamask—are coming to the game, Pokémon are dressing up in charming costumes, more Shadow Pokémon are invading PokéStops, and more! Let’s look at what’s in store for those brave enough to venture out among the ghouls, goblins, and various other denizens of the night.
Nerve-Racking New Additions
Hoping to add a chilling new Pokémon to your collection this Halloween? Well, YamASK and you shall receive. Starting Thursday, October 17, 2019, at 1:00 p.m. PDT, you’ll have the opportunity to catch the Spirit Pokémon, Yamask. Did you know that the mask this Ghost-type Pokémon carries is modeled after its face when it was human? Good luck sleeping with that knowledge. And cross your fingers when looking for Yamask—there’s a chance you’ll encounter a Shiny Yamask!
The nefarious Team GO Rocket will be busy this Halloween, too. Also starting October 17, the villains will unleash scads of Shadow Pokémon that haven’t been seen before, all ripe for rescue. Take down a Team GO Rocket Grunt at a PokéStop, and you may be able to catch a Weedle, Kakuna, Beedrill, Electabuzz, Magmar, Lapras, Mareep, Seedot, Nuzleaf, Sableye, Trapinch, Cacnea, Shuppet, or Duskull.
There are also some thrilling new threads in the Style Shop. You can play dreadful dress-up with new avatar items, including a Zubat Bag, a Pikachu Onesie, a Cubone Cap, a Litwick Cap, and a Mimikyu Bag.
Shocking Seasonal Special Features
There’s even more in store from Thursday, October 17, 2019, at 1:00 p.m. PDT, to Friday, November 1, 2019, at 1:00 p.m. PDT. During this terrifying time, the ominous Darkrai will be appearing in five-star raids. Don’t miss your chance to add the Pitch-Black Pokémon to your team!
You’ll also find more Ghost- and Dark-type Pokémon appearing in the wild, in Eggs, and in raids. Look for Pokémon like Gastly, Murkrow, Litwick, and more. And yes, as we mentioned before, Yamask will be making its debut.
We’ve seen Pokémon wearing special hats or glasses in Pokémon GO, but some Pokémon are now getting into the Halloween spirit by dressing up in full costume! These creepy-cute Pokémon wearing costumes will be found in raids and in the wild, so keep your eyes open.
Look forward to Bulbasaur wearing a Shedinja costume, Charmander wearing a Cubone costume, and Squirtle wearing a Yamask costume in raids. In the wild, be on the lookout for Pikachu wearing a Mimikyu costume! If you’re lucky, you might even encounter these alarmingly adorable Pokémon as Shiny Pokémon!
But that’s not all! During these two weeks, frightful and fun Field Research tasks will be available for a limited time. And remember to check out your Special Research–you might find yourself facing a Forbidden Pokémon.
And of course, Halloween means candy, and there are plenty of Pokémon GO Candy bonuses this year. Trainers will earn twice the Candy for catching, hatching, and transferring Pokémon for the duration of this Halloween event.
WHEW! Think you can handle that much Pokémon GO excitement, Trainers? Oh, we know you can! Get out there and have a frightfully fun time exploring this Halloween!
