There are all sorts of events just waiting to test your mettle in Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games™, out now on Nintendo 3DS family systems. From official Olympic Games events to special Plus events from the worlds of Mario and Sonic, you’ll never be short of sporting thrills!

Take the rivalry on the road with 14 supercharged Olympic Games events like Football and Table Tennis! On top of classic events including archery and swimming, Golf makes an appearance at the Olympic Games for the first time in 112 years! Competitors looking for a different kind of challenge can try their hand at 14 Plus events, which put a special Mario and Sonic twist on classic disciplines: dive through and ride on waves caused by a Thwomp to set the fastest time in 100m Freestyle Swimming Plus, or use power-ups to reach the finish line even faster in the 100m Plus event.

There are two single-player modes to get stuck into: the Rio 2016 Quick Play mode, which lets you play Olympic Games events or Plus events that you choose, and the Road to Rio, a mode that lets you enjoy the story while competing as your Mii. Depending on which gym you choose to join for the Road to Rio, you’ll see a different story unfold: so are you going to find out what happens in Sonic’s story, or in Mario’s? On top of single-player options, in multiplayer versus modes, up to four players can use Local Play or Download Play* to compete!

You can boost your Mii with amiibo, too! In the main story on the Road to Rio, complete Mario’s story and you’ll earn a natty Mario Suit, or finish Sonic’s story for a flashy blue Sonic Suit. You can power up these suits by using any amiibo** figure of Mario to power up the Mario Suit, or the amiibo** figure of Sonic to power up the Sonic Suit.

Whatever mode you play, a host of new and familiar faces from both the Mario and the Sonic series will greet you in Rio. Next to favourites such as Yoshi and Amy, 20 new characters will join the fun – including Rosalina and Rouge – for a total cast of 40 playable competitors.

Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games™ is available from shops and as a downloadable version from Nintendo eShop now, on Nintendo 3DS family systems.
