ReVeN

Always Nintendo:
First of all what is ReVeN about and what inspired your team to make it?

ReVeN

Varia Games:

ReVeN is a sci-fi shooter/2D platformer heavily influenced by the games Metroid, Deus Ex, and Crysis. The game is set in the future on a beautiful and atmospheric planet: XR-Keres. The theme of the game is duality, yin and yang. For example: the player must make sacrifices in one ability to increase their power and prowess in another. What inspired us to create ReVeN was after watching the Indie Game Developer Movie one night. We thought, why not make a game with gameplay mechanics from our favorite titles while throwing in something completely new into the mix. We have been fans of Metroid, Crysis, and Deus Ex for a very long time. It is wonderful to create a game influenced by them.

Always Nintendo:
What gameplay features are present in your game?

ReVeN

Varia Games:

Basic mechanics like aiming and jumping aside, ReVeN offers a gameplay mechanic that is inspired by RPGs. We call it the Energy Divergence Module (EDM for short). The EDM allows the player to divert energy real time to any of the four parts of SyRek’s body (Weapons, Shielding, Mobility, and Sensors) taking Power Cores from one system and shifting them into another to overcome obstacles and defeat enemies. Want a more powerful weapon? Take energy from your movement speed and increase your damage! Losing health too quickly? Become a tank by increasing your shield! We want the player to set up their “stats” the way they want to play, but leave them with the ability to change them on the fly.
