NintendObserver3DS on top. And also, Wii U on top.

In addition to the top 10 best-selling games in Japan for the fiscal year 2013-2014, Famitsu also released sales numbers for videogames platforms in the country during the same timeframe. Here are Japan’s hardware sales numbers for 2013-2014, in rankings:

  1. Nintendo 3DS — 4,291,950 units sold / 15,385,402 units total
  2. PlayStation Vita — 1,273,822 units sold / 2,673,633 units total
  3. Wii U — 833,351 units sold / 1,694,137 units total
  4. PlayStation 3 — 732,290 units sold / 9,766,530 units total
  5. PlayStation 4 — 491,889 units sold / 491,889 units total
  6. PlayStation Portable — 267,142 units sold / 19,659,471 units total
  7. Wii — 54,385 units sold / 12,742,609 units total
  8. Xbox 360 — 16,964 units / 1,612,069 units total

More than the 3DS’s domination of the charts, I believe the Wii U was indeed the best-selling home console in Japan for 2013-2014, surpassing the PlayStation 3 and the newly released PlayStation 4.
