Famitsu has recently compiled Japan’s top 10 best-selling games for the past fiscal year 2013-2014 (from April 1, 2013 to March 31, 2014):

  1. [3DS] Pokémon X/Y — 4,328,008 units sold
  2. [3DS] Monster Hunter 4 — 3,429,862 units sold
  3. [3DS] Friend Collection: New Life — 1,635,099 units sold
  4. [3DS] Puzzle & Dragons Z — 1,358,548 units sold
  5. [3DS] Animal Crossing: New Leaf — 774,152 units sold (released fiscal year 2012-2013)
  6. [3DS] Dragon Quest Monsters 2 — 710,303 units sold
  7. [PS3] Grand Theft Auto V — 699,182 units sold
  8. [WIU] Wii Party U — 697,042 units sold
  9. [3DS] Yo-kai Watch — 652,803 units sold
  10. [WIU] New Super Mario Bros. U — 622,502 units sold (released fiscal year 2012-2013)

I believe the results to be self-evident of Nintendo’s domination of the Japanese market.
